A Little More Memory Please

February 26, 2010

powerbook_12inchMy computer is nearly as old as I am, okay, not that old but its getting up there in “computer years.”  I absolutely love it and am reluctant to entertain the thought of getting a new computer despite all the signs saying that day is not far off.  As a last ditch attempt to prolong the inevitable, I bought some more memory for my baby and installed it tonight.  Paige asked how much memory I had bought and when I told her, she immediately asked what I currently had.  She then promptly burst into laughter when I told her that I was upgrading from 512MB.  Needless to say, those numbers mean little to me but I’ve been assured by numerous people that memory is the most reasonably priced upgrade available with the most bang for the buck.  The jury is still out but it does seem like there is a modest improvement in playing videos and moving around in applications.

Paige Troelstrup: Hehehe, 512MB is so 90's ;)

Brad K: Geof... 512 is hillarious! Another good trick is to reinstall your OS, most especially true if it has never been done. Depending on how "cluttered" your machine got over the years, you could find a huge increase in performance. This assumes, of course, that you still have the windows install CDs that came with it, and that your very confident with your backups (so that you could restore all the files you will lose). Good luck!

Geof Dunmore: Brad, do I really seem like a guy who would own anything but an Apple? :)
