A Night With The Joffrey

joffreyLast night, Paige and I went to the Joffrey Ballet.  The performance was a rendition of the classic tale of Cinderella with a bit of a twist - a ballet slipper instead of the traditional glass slipper.  It started slow but completely made up for it in the second and third acts.  I bought the tickets as a Valentine’s Day gift for Paige (though I was secretly pretty excited about going myself).  This would be her first time seeing the Joffrey perform and its been years since the last time I saw a performance.  We loved the experience of dressing up (I still wore my RR100 buckle though), going to the theatre, mingling with high society, and seeing a live performance.  It was excellent people watching too - lots of furs, fancy dresses and even some theatre glasses.  My company is sponsoring the production and thus we were able to get a sizable discount on the tickets.  I took this as an opportunity to get really good seats for a fraction of what it would normally cost.  As it turned out, we were sitting across the isle and a couple of rows behind the president of our business.

On our walk home, we stopped by Millennium Park to watch part of the Chicago Winter Dance Festival which was actually ice skating/dancing.  The two skaters we saw were probably early teens and were doing skating routines set to country music (that was the theme for the night).  It was amazing how entertaining they were.  It is great living in a city, and the part of the city, that does such fun things - all free of charge no less.
